Ingredients

  • 4 large russet potatoes
  • vegetable oil
  • salt

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Scrub the russet potatoes thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt. Pat them dry with a clean towel.
  • Prick each potato several times with a fork. This allows steam to escape during baking, preventing them from bursting.
  • Rub the potatoes with a thin layer of vegetable oil. This helps the skin become crispy during baking.
  • Sprinkle the potatoes with salt, ensuring even coverage.
  • Place the potatoes directly on the oven rack, wire rack, or on a baking sheet.
  • Bake the potatoes for about 1 hour, or until they are tender when pierced with a fork.
  • Once the potatoes are done, remove them from the oven and let them rest for a few minutes.
  • To serve, make a lengthwise slit on the top of each potato and gently squeeze to open. Fluff the insides with a fork and add your favorite toppings.
