Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 lbs russet potatoes rinsed, peeled, and cut into chunks
  • 1/2 cups unsalted butter softened
  • 3/4 cup milk warmed
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder optional

Instructions

  • In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add the potato chunks. Cook for 15-20 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and easily pierced with a fork.
  • Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Using a potato masher or a ricer, mash the potatoes until they are smooth and free of lumps.
  • Add the softened butter, warmed milk, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder (if using) to the mashed potatoes. Stir gently to combine.
  • Continue mashing or stirring until the ingredients are fully incorporated and the mashed potatoes are fluffy and airy.
  • Serve the fluffy mashed potatoes hot.
